“Yes” (04/24/2025)

Yesterday morning was dark and overcast, I looked at my phone to check the weather for the day. It forecast rain. But then around noon, the sun came out, the wind slowed to a breeze, the temps rose to the 70s, and my soul silently uttered its “Yes” to the LORD in thanksgiving.

Last evening, as I taught a group of 9th graders and we were discussing the development of virtues, the young people were actually answering my questions and offering suggestions. And silently my soul thanked the Spirit as I said, “Yes.”

More isn’t always better. Sometimes it’s just more. The LORD clearly understands my short yet heartfelt utterance of “Yes.” It is the way I often note the LORD’s power and presence at work in my world, it is the way I often note the LORD’s power and presence at work in others, and it is often the way I note the LORD’s power and presence at work in me. It may seem insignificant or insufficient, but I know it is not. It is my way of surrendering.

Our spiritual journeys are not easy, but at times I believe we can make them more difficult than they need to be. We can get caught up in ritual when all the LORD is asking of us is righteousness, a desire to love Him, one another and ourselves well. Our simple “Yes” suffices in lifting up to Him our awareness, our thanks, our cooperation with His graces, our will. He is the LORD; He can do a lot with our little “Yes.”

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
