The Artist (12/14/2024)

Last evening, while I was sitting with friends at the local bar and grill, waiting for our Friday night fish, I noticed an unfamiliar young man walking slowly down the row of tables, looking quite intently at the wall art. So, I did what I usually do. I spoke to him. “You seem to be very interested in the art.” And we began a 10-minute conversation.

He was from Prescott. He’d been on a job repairing a boiler south of us, and he was on his way back home. The wall art caught his attention because his dream is to create an artisan and craftsman cooperative studio. “I want to bring together sculptors and welders, glass blowers and painters, carpenters and other creative individuals so we can support one another and even collaborate on pieces.” I asked his name; he told me his full name, even his middle name. I told him I’d watch for his name, and shook his hand, wishing blessings.

That young man remained with me. How I love to encounter a dreamer. How I love to meet someone who desires to work with others to bring out the best that can be in all. I prayed for Forest last evening, for his dream, for his success, for our world that needs more Forests in it across all our endeavors, not just art.

There is so much that we can accomplish if we can cooperate with one another, if we can value the gifts of others applied for the good of us all. It is Christ’s way – gratefully using what we have as a whole for the benefit of others as well as ourselves. Remember the multiplication of loaves and fishes. Christ took what the group had, though it seemed insufficient to others, gave thanks for it, and then shared it. There was more than enough.

This day, as we go forth in faith, full of hope, fueled by love for our LORD and one another, let us look for ways to join our good with the good of others for the good of all. Let us set down competition to make room for collaboration. Let us become the artists the LORD created us to be, cooperating with His loving grace, making the world more beautiful to the glory of His name.

Until tomorrow, let us all love well.
