Wednesday of the 1st Week of Lent
Scripture Text: Luke 11:29-32
While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here."
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
In the gospel reading for today, drawn from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus speaks to the crowds about the lack of faith in Him and lack of response to His call for conversion and repentance even though the crowds had witnessed his teaching, his healing and his other miracles.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
How am I responding to Christ’s power and presence in my life? As I read the gospel and experience Christ, what is my response to Him?
Praying:
LORD, You call me to turn – to turn away from my sinful ways – to turn to You in all humility and with a contrite heart. Send the Spirit to help me in my journey back to You. Amen.
Once again, I thank you Kate for your daily guidance through this blog during Lent. My spirit needs the impact of this blog to move closer to Christ. I hope you are well!
