Daily Scripture Reflection & Prayer: June 15, 2024

Date: Saturday of the 10th Week in Ordinary Time

Scripture Text:  Matthew 5:33-37

Jesus said to his disciples:

"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors,

Do not take a false oath,

but make good to the Lord all that you vow.

But I say to you, do not swear at all;

not by heaven, for it is God's throne;

nor by the earth, for it is his footstool;

nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

Do not swear by your head,

for you cannot make a single hair white or black.

Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes,' and your 'No' mean 'No.'

Anything more is from the Evil One."

Breaking the text open – background and summary:

The gospel reading for today from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew speaks to us of honesty and sincerity.

Meditating on the text with personal questions:

Am I always honest?

Praying:

LORD, You are Truth itself and as your daughters and sons, we are called to be people of truth, to be trustworthy. Open our minds and hearts to the glory of your Truth and Love so that we might more wholly conform ourselves to You and be trustworthy as we are called to be. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
