Scripture Text: Mark 6:53-56
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea, Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The gospel for today from Mark recounts for us the way the throngs were attracted to Christ, recognizing in Him one with authority, one with authenticity, one with power, one who cared about them.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I recognize Christ’s authority, His power, His authentic love for me?
Praying:
LORD, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Redeemer, we come to You daily in prayer and bring to You our needs, our hopes, our dreams. You know us better than we know ourselves, LORD. Send your Spirit to strengthen us spiritually as well as physically and to intensify our hope in You so that we might more clearly see You, more attentively hear You, and more lovingly follow You. Amen.
