Date: Tuesday of the 2nd Week of Advent
Scripture Text: Matthew 18:12-14
Jesus said to his disciples:
"What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost."
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
The gospel for today recounts Jesus’ revealing to us the LORD’s desire for our salvation and life.
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Do I recognize the LORD’s desire for my life and salvation? How have I experienced the LORD’s search for me? In the outreach of another? In a Sunday homily? In prayer?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Holy Spirit, grant that we may recognize your loving outreach for us and desire for our salvation in the providential moments of our lives. Help us to hear your loving call to us. Amen.
