Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion
Scripture Text: Philippians 2:6-11
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
something to be grasped.
Rather, he emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
coming in human likeness;
and found human in appearance,
he humbled himself,
becoming obedient to the point of death,
even death on a cross.
Because of this, God greatly exalted him
and bestowed on him the name
which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Breaking the text open – background and summary:
In the second reading for today, Paul reminds the reader of Jesus’ obedience to the Father. “Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Meditating on the text with personal questions:
Have I sought prayerfully the Father’s will for me?
Praying:
LORD, Almighty Father, Beloved Son, Most Holy Spirit, as we begin this holiest of weeks, stir within us the fire of your love for us, the wisdom to discern your will for our modern world, and the courage to live as You call us to live individually and collectively. May each day of this holy week bring us closer to being the ones You created us to be, the disciples You call us to be, the living presence of You in our world. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
